Ralph Lauren Sheets: Thread counts & Cotton types
Home November 23rd, 2007
Are you looking at buying Ralph Lauren bedding but wondering about the importance of thread count and cotton types? What is the difference between sateen, supima & regular cotton? Are high thread counts really important?
If you are wanting a good quality sheet that will wear well then any type of cotton or thread count from Ralph Lauren will do. When comparing Ralph Lauren to other brands, the quality can be seen as well as felt. Ralph Lauren pays attention to details and the bedding items are well sewn and made of the highest quality fabrics.
If you are wanting a soft sheet then you will want to look at supimas. Supima cotton is grown in the American Southwest and is the softest available. Usually, the higher the thread count the softer the cotton when it comes to supimas.
If you are wanting a sheet that feels like silk then you will want to check out sheets made from cotton sateen. With sateens you will want at least a 370 thread count for that super silky feel. Again the higher the thread count the silkier the sheet with sateens. Now, other brands of sateens do not feel as silky. I noticed that a popular brand of sateen 600 thread count sheet only feels as silky as a 280 sateen from Ralph Lauren.
On thread counts–when buying supima or sateen you will get a softer/silkier sheet with higher thread counts. But this is not necessarily so with regular cotton. With regular cotton you will want to look at the weave as well as thread count. A regular weave high thread count normal cotton sheet is going to be soft but if the weave is canvas-like it will feel like canvas even if it is a high thread count. A jacquard weave will have a textured feel although if it is sateen it will still feel silky if the thread count is high.
Now, you should have a basic idea of the difference between cotton types, thread counts and weaves. Happy bidding!!
