Seller out of country, neighbor shipped
Professional Buying April 19th, 2008
I won and paid for an auction on March 23rd(on a different account). The total was about $247.50. Seller contacted me and said that he was selling the item for a neighbor and that the neighbor claimed that she sent it on March 24th. The seller also said that he was going to be out of the country for a few weeks so he probably wouldn’t be able to help me in case of a problem.
Around April 5th, I decided to try to contact the seller because if it was sent on the 24th, it really should have gotten here by then. Especially since it was sent priority(at least thats what I paid for) and because the item is located only a few hundred miles away. So I tried contacting the seller a few times and then on april 10th I opened a paypal dispute. I figured maybe he would respnd through there. Now, I know he said that he was out of the country so thats probably why he wasn’t responding. But guess what, as soon as I opened a dispute, then he responded.
He said that the item should have arrived by now and that he can’t speak with the neighbor so I should close the dispute untill he talks with her(I can’t reopen a dispute can I?). He also claims that paypal put a hold on his account and that his daughter who also uses the account cannot access the majority of her money. Now something in there sounds fishy to me. I haven’t even esculated this to a claim yet. As far as I knew, paypal doesn’t really do anything untill a claim is filed. Also, even when they put money on hold isn’t it only for the disputed ammount?
Anyway, I am not sure what to say to them. I don’t have a good feeling about all this and the seller telling me to close the dispute and I think they are lying about some things… it just doesn’t sit well.
But then I get another message today from the seller. He claims that the package was shipped back to his neighbor because she put the wrong zip code.
He also said this:
“I also spoke with paypal. I wanted to get more information regarding the claim since Id never dealt with this before. The representative recommended I request you close the claim before the package is sent out again, since I do not have seller protection? This is to safeguard myself incase you receive the goods, but still proceed with the claim. Im not saying you would do this, but its what paypal recommended I work out.”
So what do you all think is going on with this? fishy? Am I being paranoid? What is my next action? It sounds like maybe he won’t have the goods sent untill I close the dispute… That just makes me nervous because I can’t reopen it right? And it also seems like maybe he is trying to make me run out of time for esculating. Sorry that this was so long! Thanks for any help!
